Soundgarden CD

Soundgarden released a statement online earlier this week saying that, "Over the past few months, we’ve been busy jamming, writing and hanging out together – exploring the creative aspect of being Soundgarden. It feels great. We have some cool new songs that we are going to record very soon. Thank you for all of the support!"

Now, guitarist Kim Thayil has spoken to Rolling Stone in more detail about what the band has in store. Their first-ever live album, Live on I5, comes out on March 22, and it is comprised of performances from their 1996 West Coast tour. Thayil says he would like to do some more extensive touring in the near future.

Asked about doing a full tour this summer, Thayil pointed out that drummer Matt Cameron has commitments with Pearl Jam and nothing is set in stone. "We're always talking about stuff. There's always ideas," he said. "I don't mean to be vague, but we're always talking to each other and jamming with each other, and I think it's probably likely that we'll be playing live. And I think we would be happier to do that in tour form than just to do it as one-offs."
